- 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped Heath bars for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the boiling water until well combined (the batter will be thin).
- Fold in the chopped Heath bars gently.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat the softened butter in a mixing bowl until creamy. Gradually add cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with milk, until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, spread frosting between the layers and on top of the cake. Sprinkle the remaining chopped Heath bars on top for decoration.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, try adding a teaspoon of espresso powder to the batter.
- You can also substitute the Heath bars with crushed Oreo cookies for a different twist.
