Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (lean)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 small onion, finely diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
8 oz mushrooms (button or cremini), sliced
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce (or homemade)
1/2 cup beef broth or water (optional, for thinning the sauce)
12 oz spaghetti noodles
Fresh parsley or basil, for garnish
Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Instructions
-
Cook the spaghetti noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
-
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 3 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
-
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
-
Stir in the sliced mushrooms and cook for 5–7 minutes, until mushrooms are tender and slightly golden.
-
Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Pour in the marinara sauce and optional beef broth. Stir and let simmer for 10–15 minutes.
-
Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss well to combine with the sauce.
-
Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs and Parmesan cheese.
Notes
-
For a richer sauce, use half ground beef and half Italian sausage.
-
Swap spaghetti for linguine or rigatoni if desired.
-
Add a splash of red wine to the sauce while simmering for depth of flavor.
-
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days; it reheats beautifully.
