Description

Beef Chow Mein is a quick and easy stir-fry dish featuring tender flank steak, colorful vegetables, and chow mein noodles, all tossed in a savory sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 cup bean sprouts
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup bell peppers, sliced (any color)
  • 1 cup snow peas
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 8 ounces chow mein noodles, cooked according to package instructions

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak, soy sauce, and cornstarch. Mix well and let it marinate for about 15 minutes.
  2. In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the garlic and ginger, and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the carrots, bell peppers, snow peas, and bean sprouts to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet. Add the cooked chow mein noodles, oyster sauce, and water. Toss everything together and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  6. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes or sliced jalapeños during the stir-fry.
  • Substitute the beef with chicken, shrimp, or tofu for a different protein option.
