Description
Beef Chow Mein is a quick and easy stir-fry dish featuring tender flank steak, colorful vegetables, and chow mein noodles, all tossed in a savory sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 1 cup bean sprouts
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 1 cup bell peppers, sliced (any color)
- 1 cup snow peas
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 2 tablespoons water
- 8 ounces chow mein noodles, cooked according to package instructions
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak, soy sauce, and cornstarch. Mix well and let it marinate for about 15 minutes.
- In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the garlic and ginger, and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the carrots, bell peppers, snow peas, and bean sprouts to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Return the beef to the skillet. Add the cooked chow mein noodles, oyster sauce, and water. Toss everything together and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until heated through.
- Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes or sliced jalapeños during the stir-fry.
- Substitute the beef with chicken, shrimp, or tofu for a different protein option.
