Description

A delicious and unique grilled cheese sandwich featuring bourbon-maple brisket, sharp cheddar cheese, and optional pickled jalapeños for an extra kick.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked brisket, shredded
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 8 slices of sourdough bread
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 slices of sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup pickled jalapeños (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the shredded brisket, bourbon, maple syrup, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir well and let simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the mixture to thicken slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  3. Spread 1 tablespoon of softened butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
  4. Place 4 slices of bread, buttered side down, onto the skillet. Layer each with 2 slices of cheddar cheese, followed by an even amount of the bourbon-maple brisket mixture, and top with another 2 slices of cheddar cheese.
  5. Place the remaining slices of bread on top, buttered side up. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.
  6. Carefully flip each sandwich and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes on the other side, until golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
  7. If using, add pickled jalapeños to the sandwich before serving for an extra kick.
  8. Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a smoky flavor, consider adding a few drops of liquid smoke to the brisket mixture while it simmers.
  • Substitute the cheddar cheese with pepper jack for a spicier twist, or use a combination of cheeses for added depth of flavor.
