Description

This Burger Bowl delivers all the flavors of a classic cheeseburger—without the bun. Crispy oven-baked or air-fried potato wedges serve as the base, topped with spiced beef mince, shredded lettuce, pickles, cheese, and a creamy homemade burger sauce. It’s an easy, crowd-pleasing dinner that’s customizable, dairy-free-friendly, and loaded with flavor.

Ingredients

Spice Mix (for beef and potatoes):
1 1/2 teaspoons smoked paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano or mixed herbs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the Bowls:
2–3 medium potatoes, washed and cut into wedges or chips
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
500 grams lean ground beef
Shredded lettuce
Cheese (regular or dairy-free)
Pickle slices

Homemade Burger Sauce:
4 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon Dijon or yellow mustard
1 teaspoon pickle juice
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper to create the spice mix.

  2. Pat potato wedges dry and toss with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and half of the spice mix. Spread on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) for 30–40 minutes, or air fry at 200°C for 20 minutes, shaking halfway through, until crispy and golden.

  3. Heat the remaining olive oil in a skillet over high heat. Add ground beef, break it apart, and cook until browned. Add the remaining spice mix and cook until the liquid evaporates and meat darkens in color.

  4. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle juice, garlic powder, and smoked paprika to make the burger sauce. Adjust to taste.

  5. To assemble, divide the crispy potatoes into bowls. Top with shredded lettuce, seasoned beef, cheese, and pickle slices. Drizzle generously with burger sauce. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute the potatoes with cauliflower or sweet potatoes. You can also swap ground beef for turkey or plant-based alternatives. The burger sauce can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.
