Description
A delicious and crispy buttermilk fried chicken burger that is easy to make and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs (about 1 pound)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- Lettuce leaves
- Tomato slices
- Pickles
- Your favorite burger sauce (e.g., mayo, ranch, or spicy sauce)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine buttermilk, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken thighs, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- In a shallow dish, mix the flour and cayenne pepper (if using). Remove the chicken from the buttermilk marinade, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge each piece in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
- In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F.
- Carefully place the coated chicken thighs in the hot oil, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F). Remove and drain on paper towels.
- While the chicken is still hot, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each piece to melt slightly.
- Toast the hamburger buns in the remaining oil or on a skillet until golden brown.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a piece of fried chicken on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, and your favorite sauce. Place the top half of the bun on and serve immediately.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add more cayenne pepper or use a spicy sauce as a topping.
- Substitute chicken thighs with chicken breasts for a leaner option, but adjust cooking time as breasts may cook faster.
