Description

A quick and delicious Cabbage and Beef Skillet recipe that combines ground beef, cabbage, and spices for a hearty meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 small head of green cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sour cream (optional, for serving)
  • Tortilla chips (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef or turkey. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  4. Stir in the chopped cabbage, black beans, diced tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
  5. Cover the skillet and reduce the heat to medium-low. Cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.
  6. Remove the lid and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top. Cover again for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro and optional sour cream or tortilla chips on the side.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce during cooking.
  • To make it vegetarian, substitute the ground meat with additional beans or lentils.
