Description
Cabbage Beef Bake is a hearty and delicious dish that combines ground beef, cabbage, and cheese, making it a family favorite.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 small head of cabbage, chopped
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the salt, black pepper, paprika, oregano, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well.
- Add the chopped cabbage, diced tomatoes (with juice), beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet. Stir until everything is well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top, and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For added flavor, try mixing in some cooked rice or quinoa before baking.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- For a vegetarian version, replace the beef with lentils or a meat substitute and use vegetable broth instead.
