Description

A delightful fall treat, this Caramel Apple Bread combines the flavors of fresh apples and rich caramel for a deliciously moist loaf.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and sour cream until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the diced apples and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed.
  7. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the batter, then add the remaining batter on top. Finish by drizzling the rest of the caramel sauce over the top.
  8. Using a knife, gently swirl the caramel into the batter for a marbled effect.
  9. Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, try using brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
  • You can substitute the apples with pears or a mix of both for a different twist.
