Description

A delicious twist on a classic dessert, this Caramel Apple Pie combines sweet, tender apples with rich caramel sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 pre-made pie crust (9-inch)
  • 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced (about 6 medium apples, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Toss until the apples are well coated.
  3. Pour half of the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the apples.
  4. Add the remaining apple mixture on top and drizzle with the rest of the caramel sauce. Dot the top with small pieces of butter.
  5. Cover the pie with the second pie crust or create a lattice top. Seal and flute the edges. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  6. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the filling to set.

Notes

  • For an extra flavor boost, add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the apple mixture.
  • Consider using a mix of different apple varieties for a more complex flavor profile.
