Description
A delicious and moist caramel apple sheet cake perfect for fall gatherings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups peeled and diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened (for frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 12×17-inch baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet and spread it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan.
- For the frosting, beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until well combined. Stir in the vanilla extract and milk until the frosting reaches a spreadable consistency.
- Once the cake is completely cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting over the top. Drizzle with caramel sauce before serving.
Notes
- For a nutty twist, add 1 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter.
- For a spiced version, increase the cinnamon to 1 ½ teaspoons and add ½ teaspoon of ground ginger.
