Description

Cauliflower Parmesan is a delicious and comforting dish that features breaded cauliflower florets baked with marinara sauce, Parmesan, and mozzarella cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or olive oil.
  2. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the cauliflower florets and cook for about 5 minutes until just tender. Drain and let cool slightly.
  3. Set up a breading station: Place the flour in one shallow dish, the beaten eggs in another, and mix the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper in a third dish.
  4. Dip each cauliflower floret first in the flour, shaking off excess, then in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Place the breaded florets in the prepared baking dish.
  5. Once all the cauliflower is breaded, pour the marinara sauce evenly over the florets. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese on top, followed by the shredded mozzarella cheese.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before garnishing with fresh basil leaves, if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, substitute the all-purpose flour and breadcrumbs with almond flour and gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • Add cooked Italian sausage or ground turkey to the marinara sauce for a heartier dish.
