Description
Char Siu Chicken is a deliciously marinated and grilled chicken dish that is sweet, savory, and packed with flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons five-spice powder
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
- Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, five-spice powder, garlic, ginger, and red food coloring if using. Mix well to create the marinade.
- Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best flavor.
- Preheat your grill or oven to 400°F. If using a grill, lightly oil the grates.
- Remove the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade for basting.
- Grill the chicken for about 6-7 minutes per side, basting with the reserved marinade, until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice char. If baking, place the chicken on a lined baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, basting halfway through.
- Once cooked, let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add 1 teaspoon of chili paste to the marinade.
- Serve with steamed rice and stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
