Description
Cheesey Oven-Baked Cabbage Burgers are a delightful twist on traditional burgers, featuring a savory meat filling wrapped in tender cabbage leaves.
Ingredients
- 1 small head of green cabbage (about 2 pounds)
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup diced onions
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F.
- Remove the core from the cabbage and carefully peel off 12 large leaves. Blanch the leaves in boiling water for about 2 minutes until slightly softened. Drain and set aside to cool.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and diced onions. Mix until well combined.
- Take a blanched cabbage leaf and place about 1/4 cup of the meat mixture in the center. Fold the sides over and roll it up tightly. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.
- Place the cabbage burgers seam-side down in a greased baking dish. Drizzle with olive oil and cover with foil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the burgers are cooked through and the tops are golden brown.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes to the meat mixture.
- Substitute ground beef with cooked quinoa or lentils for a vegetarian option.
