Description
A delicious and creamy dish featuring fresh asparagus, crispy bacon, and melted Gruyere cheese, perfect for a side or main dish.
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed
- 4 slices bacon, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels, leaving the bacon fat in the skillet.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Remove from heat.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, black pepper, salt, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir in the sautéed garlic and half of the Gruyere cheese.
- Place the trimmed asparagus in a baking dish and drizzle with olive oil. Toss to coat evenly.
- Pour the cream mixture over the asparagus, then sprinkle the cooked bacon on top.
- Top with the remaining Gruyere cheese and the grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the asparagus is tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a lighter version, substitute the heavy cream with half-and-half or a low-fat cream alternative.
- You can also add cherry tomatoes or sliced mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrition.
