Ingredients
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a medium bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix well and set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until creamy and smooth.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing until fully combined.
- Gradually add the dry oat mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- For a nutty flavor, add 1/2 cup of chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans to the batter.
- Substitute the chocolate chips with dried fruit, such as cranberries or raisins, for a different twist.
