Description
A classic homemade lasagna recipe featuring layers of pasta, meat, cheese, and rich tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 9 lasagna noodles
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add ground beef and Italian sausage to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes to let flavors meld.
- In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until smooth.
- In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna noodles on top.
- Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the mozzarella cheese and a layer of meat sauce. Repeat the layers, finishing with noodles, meat sauce, and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let the lasagna cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, substitute the meat with sautéed vegetables like zucchini, mushrooms, and spinach.
- Add a layer of spinach or kale for extra nutrition and flavor.
