Description
A classic patty melt featuring juicy beef patties, caramelized onions, and melted Swiss cheese, all sandwiched between crispy rye bread.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 4 slices of rye bread
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into 4 equal patties.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Once hot, add the sliced onions and sauté until they are caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, cook the beef patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty to melt.
- While the patties are cooking, spread softened butter on one side of each slice of rye bread.
- Once the patties are done, remove them from the skillet and set aside. Place two slices of bread in the skillet, buttered side down. Top each slice with a patty, some caramelized onions, and then cover with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up.
- Grill the sandwiches for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve immediately.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add a few slices of jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the patties before cooking.
- Try using different types of cheese, such as cheddar or pepper jack, for a unique flavor twist.
