Description

A classic patty melt featuring juicy beef patties, caramelized onions, and melted Swiss cheese, all sandwiched between crispy rye bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices of rye bread
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into 4 equal patties.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Once hot, add the sliced onions and sauté until they are caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, cook the beef patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty to melt.
  4. While the patties are cooking, spread softened butter on one side of each slice of rye bread.
  5. Once the patties are done, remove them from the skillet and set aside. Place two slices of bread in the skillet, buttered side down. Top each slice with a patty, some caramelized onions, and then cover with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up.
  6. Grill the sandwiches for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a few slices of jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the patties before cooking.
  • Try using different types of cheese, such as cheddar or pepper jack, for a unique flavor twist.
