Description

A delicious and flavorful side dish made with fresh green beans, bacon, and a blend of seasonings.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
  2. In the same skillet, add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet, along with the salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and cover the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the green beans are tender but still crisp.
  6. Remove the lid and stir in the cooked bacon, olive oil, and apple cider vinegar. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon and use olive oil for sautéing, adding smoked paprika for a similar flavor.
  • Add sliced almonds or walnuts for extra crunch and flavor.
