Description
A delicious and creamy baked cabbage casserole that is easy to prepare and perfect for family meals.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small head of green cabbage, chopped (about 4 cups)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
- Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, along with the salt, black pepper, and paprika. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender, about 10 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sautéed cabbage mixture with sour cream, half of the cheddar cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix well until combined.
- Transfer the cabbage mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Spread it evenly.
- In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the remaining cheddar and Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the cabbage casserole.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired before serving.
Notes
- For a meatier version, add cooked ground beef or sausage to the cabbage mixture before baking.
- Substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream for a healthier option, or use a dairy-free alternative for a vegan version.
