Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small head of green cabbage, chopped (about 4 cups)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
  3. Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, along with the salt, black pepper, and paprika. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender, about 10 minutes.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sautéed cabbage mixture with sour cream, half of the cheddar cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix well until combined.
  5. Transfer the cabbage mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Spread it evenly.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the remaining cheddar and Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the cabbage casserole.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired before serving.
