Description

Golden, crispy chicken cutlets smothered in marinara and bubbling mozzarella — this Classic Chicken Parmesan is the ultimate Italian-American comfort food. It’s easy enough for a weeknight dinner and delicious enough to feel like a celebration on your plate.

Ingredients

You’ll need boneless, skinless chicken breasts sliced in half lengthwise, all-purpose flour, beaten eggs, seasoned Italian breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, marinara sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, olive oil, and optional fresh basil for garnish.

Instructions

  1. Slice the chicken breasts in half horizontally to make thinner cutlets. Pat dry, then season both sides with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

  2. Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mix of breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan. Dredge each cutlet in the flour, dip into the eggs, and coat in the breadcrumb mixture.

  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Cook the breaded chicken for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and fully cooked. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.

  4. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the cooked chicken cutlets in a baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

  5. Bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.

  6. Garnish with torn fresh basil if desired, and serve hot with pasta, garlic bread, or a crisp green salad.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of Italian seasoning or red pepper flakes to the breadcrumb mixture.

  • Use freshly grated mozzarella for best melt and flavor.

  • This dish reheats well in the oven at 350°F for 10–12 minutes.

  • You can prep the cutlets in advance and freeze them before baking for a make-ahead dinner option.
