Description

A delightful recipe for crispy Chinese shrimp cakes that are perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, pulse the shrimp until coarsely chopped but not pureed. Transfer to a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add the green onions, cilantro, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper to the bowl. Mix until well combined.
  3. Stir in the breadcrumbs and egg until the mixture holds together. If it feels too wet, add a bit more breadcrumbs.
  4. Form the mixture into small patties, about 2 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the patties in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  6. Fry the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve warm with sweet chili sauce or soy sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add 1 teaspoon of chili paste to the shrimp mixture.
  • You can substitute the shrimp with crab meat or a mix of seafood for a different flavor profile.
