Crispy Chinese Shrimp Cakes are delicious, golden-brown patties made with fresh shrimp and aromatic herbs, perfect for a savory snack or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 cup green onions, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a food processor, pulse the shrimp until coarsely chopped but not pureed. Transfer to a mixing bowl.
- Add the green onions, cilantro, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper to the bowl with the shrimp. Mix until well combined.
- Stir in the breadcrumbs and beaten egg until the mixture holds together.
- Form the mixture into small patties, about 2 inches in diameter.
- Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Fry the shrimp cakes in batches for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with sweet chili sauce or soy sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add a teaspoon of Sriracha or chili paste to the shrimp mixture.
- You can substitute the shrimp with crab meat or a mix of seafood for a different flavor profile.
