Description
Crispy Ham & Cheese Puff Pastry Stacks are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack, featuring layers of ham and cheese encased in flaky puff pastry.
Ingredients
- 2 sheets of frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 8 ounces sliced ham
- 8 ounces sliced cheese (Swiss or cheddar)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out each sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to smooth out any creases. Cut each sheet into 4 equal squares.
- On half of the pastry squares, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard. Layer 2 slices of ham and 2 slices of cheese on top of the mustard. Season with salt and pepper, and sprinkle with chopped parsley if using.
- Top each filled square with a second pastry square, pressing down the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
- Brush the tops of the pastry stacks with the beaten egg to give them a golden color when baked.
- Place the stacks on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until they are puffed and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, replace the ham with sautéed mushrooms or spinach.
- Add a slice of tomato or a few slices of avocado inside the stacks for extra flavor and nutrition.
