Description
A delicious recipe for crispy fried onion rings, perfect as a snack or side dish.
Ingredients
- 2 large sweet onions, sliced into 1/4-inch rings
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions
- Begin by soaking the onion rings in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes. This will help tenderize the onions and enhance their flavor.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet or fryer over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
- Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk, allowing any excess liquid to drip off.
- Dredge each onion ring in the flour mixture, making sure to coat them thoroughly. Shake off any excess flour.
- Carefully place the coated onion rings in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried onion rings and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- For extra crunch, try adding 1/2 cup of cornmeal to the flour mixture.
- For a spicy kick, mix in 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper or serve with a spicy dipping sauce like sriracha mayo.
