Description
Crispy Tot Chili Casserole is a hearty and delicious dish that combines chili and crispy tater tots, making it a family favorite.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 bag (32 ounces) frozen tater tots
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup sour cream (optional for serving)
- Chopped green onions (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
- Stir in the kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spread the chili mixture evenly on the bottom.
- Layer the frozen tater tots on top of the chili mixture in a single layer.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the tater tots.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Top with sour cream and chopped green onions if desired.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the chili mixture.
- Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option, or use a plant-based meat alternative for a vegetarian version.
