Description
A rich and indulgent German chocolate poke cake that is sure to impress with its layers of chocolate, coconut, and pecans.
Ingredients
- 1 box German chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once the cake is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
- Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the top of the cake, about 1 inch apart.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, coconut, and pecans. Stir until the chocolate chips are melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Pour this mixture over the cake, making sure it fills the holes. Allow the cake to cool completely.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Spread the whipped cream over the cooled cake.
- Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, try adding a layer of chocolate ganache on top of the whipped cream.
- You can also substitute the pecans with walnuts or almonds for a different nutty flavor.
