Description

A rich and indulgent German chocolate poke cake that is sure to impress with its layers of chocolate, coconut, and pecans.

Ingredients

  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well combined.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  4. Once the cake is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  5. Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the top of the cake, about 1 inch apart.
  6. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, coconut, and pecans. Stir until the chocolate chips are melted and the mixture is smooth.
  7. Pour this mixture over the cake, making sure it fills the holes. Allow the cake to cool completely.
  8. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  9. Spread the whipped cream over the cooled cake.
  10. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, try adding a layer of chocolate ganache on top of the whipped cream.
  • You can also substitute the pecans with walnuts or almonds for a different nutty flavor.
