Description

A delicious Dutch Caramel Apple Pie that combines the tartness of Granny Smith apples with a sweet caramel topping, perfect for fall.

Ingredients

  • 1 pre-made pie crust (9-inch)
  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Toss until the apples are well coated.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into the pre-made pie crust, spreading it evenly.
  4. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the apples, ensuring even coverage.
  5. In another bowl, mix the rolled oats, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt until crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle the oat mixture over the caramel apple filling in the pie.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger to the apple mixture.
