A delicious Dutch Caramel Apple Pie that combines the tartness of Granny Smith apples with a sweet caramel topping, perfect for fall.
Ingredients
- 1 pre-made pie crust (9-inch)
- 6 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Toss until the apples are well coated.
- Pour the apple mixture into the pre-made pie crust, spreading it evenly.
- Drizzle the caramel sauce over the apples, ensuring even coverage.
- In another bowl, mix the rolled oats, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the oat mixture over the caramel apple filling in the pie.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger to the apple mixture.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an indulgent treat.
