Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water until well combined. The batter will be thin.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the cake.
  7. Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes.
  8. In a small bowl, combine the shredded coconut and chopped pecans. Sprinkle this mixture over the top of the cake.
  9. Allow the cake to cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving for the best flavor and texture.
