Description
A moist and decadent German chocolate poke cake that is easy to make and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup caramel sauce
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth.
- Carefully stir in the boiling water until well combined. The batter will be thin.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the cake.
- Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes.
- In a small bowl, combine the shredded coconut and chopped pecans. Sprinkle this mixture over the top of the cake.
- Allow the cake to cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, substitute half of the vegetable oil with melted butter.
- Try adding a layer of chocolate ganache on top for an extra decadent treat.
