Description
Firecracker Tofu is a zesty and flavorful dish made with crispy tofu cubes marinated in a spicy sauce, perfect for a quick meal.
Ingredients
- 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons sriracha sauce (adjust for heat preference)
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sriracha, honey or maple syrup, garlic powder, and ginger powder.
- Add the tofu cubes to the marinade, gently tossing to coat. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for more flavor.
- After marinating, sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu cubes and toss gently to coat evenly.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, add the tofu cubes in a single layer, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the tofu from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
- Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
- For extra crunch, try double frying the tofu by frying it once, letting it cool, and frying it again for 2-3 minutes.
- Add vegetables like bell peppers or broccoli to the skillet for a complete meal; simply stir-fry them alongside the tofu.
