Description

Firecracker Tofu is a zesty and flavorful dish made with crispy tofu cubes marinated in a spicy sauce, perfect for a quick meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha sauce (adjust for heat preference)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sriracha, honey or maple syrup, garlic powder, and ginger powder.
  3. Add the tofu cubes to the marinade, gently tossing to coat. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for more flavor.
  4. After marinating, sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu cubes and toss gently to coat evenly.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Once hot, add the tofu cubes in a single layer, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the tofu from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, try double frying the tofu by frying it once, letting it cool, and frying it again for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add vegetables like bell peppers or broccoli to the skillet for a complete meal; simply stir-fry them alongside the tofu.
