A delicious and easy recipe for French Canadian Salmon Pie, perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 2 (14.75-ounce) cans of pink salmon, drained and flaked
- 1 cup mashed potatoes (about 2 medium potatoes)
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1 cup frozen peas, thawed
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon dried dill
- 1 pre-made pie crust (9-inch)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flaked salmon, mashed potatoes, chopped onion, and thawed peas.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt, black pepper, and dill until smooth.
- Pour the milk mixture over the salmon mixture and stir until well combined.
- Pour the filling into the pie crust, spreading it evenly.
- Cover with the second pie crust, sealing the edges by crimping with a fork. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- Let the pie cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For a creamier filling, add 1/4 cup of sour cream to the mixture.
- You can substitute fresh cooked salmon for canned salmon for a fresher taste.
