Description
A delicious and savory dish made with fried cabbage, crispy bacon, onions, and garlic, perfect as a side or main course.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small head green cabbage, chopped (about 4 cups)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped bacon and cook until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the skillet.
- Add the sliced onion to the skillet and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, along with the salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir well to combine and cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
- Return the cooked bacon to the skillet and drizzle with apple cider vinegar. Stir to combine and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Serve hot as a side dish or main course.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon and use smoked paprika for a similar flavor.
- Add sliced bell peppers or carrots for extra color and nutrition.
