Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- Cooking spray or additional butter for greasing the waffle iron
Instructions
- Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Lightly grease it with cooking spray or melted butter.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
- Pour an appropriate amount of batter onto the preheated waffle iron (about 1/2 cup, depending on the size of your waffle iron) and close the lid. Cook according to your waffle iron’s instructions, usually about 4-5 minutes, until the waffles are set and slightly crispy.
- Carefully remove the waffles and repeat with the remaining batter.
- Serve warm with your favorite toppings, such as whipped cream, fresh berries, or a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
