Description
A delightful recipe for German Cabbage and Dumplings, featuring tender cabbage and flavorful potato dumplings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups green cabbage, finely shredded
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 cup vegetable broth
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 pound potato dumplings (store-bought or homemade)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the shredded cabbage, caraway seeds, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.
- Pour in the vegetable broth and apple cider vinegar. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- While the cabbage mixture is simmering, prepare the potato dumplings according to package instructions or your homemade recipe.
- Once the dumplings are cooked, gently fold them into the cabbage mixture. Stir to combine and heat through for about 2-3 minutes.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
Notes
- For a heartier dish, add cooked sausage or bacon to the cabbage mixture for extra flavor.
- Substitute the green cabbage with red cabbage for a colorful twist and a slightly sweeter taste.
