Description
A delicious and elegant appetizer featuring creamy Brie cheese wrapped in golden puff pastry, topped with caramelized apples and fresh thyme.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces Brie cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 medium apples, cored and sliced (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- Crackers or sliced baguette, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced apples and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften.
- Stir in the brown sugar, thyme, cinnamon, salt, and lemon juice. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, until the apples are caramelized and tender. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry to smooth out creases. Place the Brie in the center of the pastry. Spoon the caramelized apple mixture over the top of the Brie.
- Fold the edges of the puff pastry over the Brie, pinching to seal. Place the wrapped Brie on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the pastry with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with crackers or sliced baguette.
Notes
- For a sweeter touch, drizzle honey over the baked Brie before serving.
- You can also substitute the apples with pears for a different flavor profile.
