Description

Indulge in these delicious gooey caramel cookie bars that combine the richness of chocolate and caramel in a delightful treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using.
  7. Spread half of the cookie dough evenly in the prepared baking pan. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the dough.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining cookie dough over the caramel layer, then drizzle the rest of the caramel sauce on top.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  10. Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing into squares.

Notes

  • For a salted caramel twist, sprinkle a little sea salt on top of the caramel before baking.
  • Substitute the chocolate chips with white chocolate or butterscotch chips for a different flavor profile.
