Description
Indulge in these delicious gooey caramel cookie bars that combine the richness of chocolate and caramel in a delightful treat.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using.
- Spread half of the cookie dough evenly in the prepared baking pan. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the dough.
- Drop spoonfuls of the remaining cookie dough over the caramel layer, then drizzle the rest of the caramel sauce on top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing into squares.
Notes
- For a salted caramel twist, sprinkle a little sea salt on top of the caramel before baking.
- Substitute the chocolate chips with white chocolate or butterscotch chips for a different flavor profile.
