Description
A delicious Greek Honey Pie made with a flaky crust, a sweet walnut filling, and a dusting of powdered sugar.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg yolk
- 3 tablespoons cold water
- 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for topping)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch pie pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, softened butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Mix until crumbly.
- Add the egg yolk and cold water to the flour mixture. Stir until the dough comes together.
- Press the dough into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared pie pan. Prick the bottom with a fork to prevent bubbling.
- Bake the crust for 15 minutes, then remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
- In another bowl, mix the chopped walnuts, honey, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, milk, and beaten egg until well combined.
- Pour the walnut mixture into the pre-baked crust, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and lightly golden.
- Allow the pie to cool completely before dusting with powdered sugar and ground cinnamon.
- Slice and serve at room temperature or chilled.
Notes
- For a nut-free version, substitute the walnuts with rolled oats or a blend of seeds.
- Enhance the flavor by adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the filling mixture.
