Description

A rich and indulgent cake that combines chocolate, caramel, and whipped topping for a heavenly dessert experience.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup whipped topping
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin). Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  5. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
  6. Once cooled, poke holes in the top of each cake layer using a fork. Pour half of the sweetened condensed milk over each layer, allowing it to soak in.
  7. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over each layer, spreading it evenly.
  8. Place one layer on a serving plate and spread half of the whipped topping over it. If using, sprinkle with half of the chocolate chips and nuts.
  9. Place the second layer on top and repeat the process with the remaining whipped topping, chocolate chips, and nuts.
  10. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

  • For a chocolate lover’s twist, add a layer of chocolate ganache on top of the whipped topping.
  • Substitute the caramel sauce with a fruit topping like strawberry or raspberry for a refreshing variation.
