Description
A delicious recipe for crispy potato rösti stuffed with Jarlsberg cheese, perfect for a savory snack or side dish.
Ingredients
- 2 large russet potatoes (about 1.5 pounds), peeled and grated
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 cup shredded Jarlsberg cheese
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
- Sour cream and chives (for serving, optional)
Instructions
- Place the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out as much moisture as possible. This will help achieve a crispy texture.
- In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, flour, and beaten egg. Mix until well combined.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Take a handful of the potato mixture and flatten it into a patty about 1/2 inch thick. Place a tablespoon of shredded Jarlsberg cheese in the center, then fold the edges over to encase the cheese.
- Carefully place the stuffed patty in the hot skillet. Repeat with additional patties, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
- Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Add more oil as needed for frying.
- Once cooked, transfer the rösti to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve warm with sour cream and chopped chives, if desired.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or diced jalapeños to the potato mixture.
- Try substituting Jarlsberg cheese with other cheeses like cheddar or gouda for a different flavor profile.
