Description

Korean Rice Balls are a delicious and versatile snack made with short-grain rice and various fillings, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked short-grain rice (preferably sushi rice)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black sesame seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon white sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped cooked protein (such as chicken, tuna, or tofu)
  • 1/4 cup finely diced cucumber or carrot (optional)
  • Nori sheets, cut into strips (for wrapping, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the cooked rice, sesame oil, soy sauce, and salt. Mix well until the rice is evenly coated.
  2. Add the black and white sesame seeds, green onions, and your choice of protein and vegetables. Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  3. Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking. Take a small handful of the rice mixture and shape it into a ball or triangle, about the size of a golf ball.
  4. If using nori, wrap a strip around each rice ball for added flavor and texture.
  5. Place the rice balls on a plate and let them sit for about 10 minutes to firm up before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add a teaspoon of gochujang (Korean chili paste) to the rice mixture.
  • Experiment with different fillings like avocado, pickled radish, or kimchi for a unique twist on flavor.
