Description
Korean Rice Balls are a delicious and versatile snack made with short-grain rice and various fillings, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups cooked short-grain rice (preferably sushi rice)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black sesame seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon white sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
- 1/4 cup finely chopped cooked protein (such as chicken, tuna, or tofu)
- 1/4 cup finely diced cucumber or carrot (optional)
- Nori sheets, cut into strips (for wrapping, optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked rice, sesame oil, soy sauce, and salt. Mix well until the rice is evenly coated.
- Add the black and white sesame seeds, green onions, and your choice of protein and vegetables. Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking. Take a small handful of the rice mixture and shape it into a ball or triangle, about the size of a golf ball.
- If using nori, wrap a strip around each rice ball for added flavor and texture.
- Place the rice balls on a plate and let them sit for about 10 minutes to firm up before serving.
Notes
- For a spicy kick, add a teaspoon of gochujang (Korean chili paste) to the rice mixture.
- Experiment with different fillings like avocado, pickled radish, or kimchi for a unique twist on flavor.
