Description

Meat Lasagna is a classic comfort dish made with layers of pasta, rich meat sauce, and creamy cheese, perfect for family gatherings or a cozy dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (6-ounce) cans tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic until the meat is browned and the onion is soft. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. While the sauce simmers, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  5. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt. Mix until smooth.
  6. In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the mozzarella cheese and a third of the meat sauce.
  7. Repeat the layers: noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and meat sauce. Finish with a final layer of noodles, the remaining meat sauce, and top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Let the lasagna cool for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute the meat with sautéed vegetables like zucchini, mushrooms, and spinach.
  • Add a layer of fresh spinach or kale between the noodles for added nutrition and flavor.
