Description
Meat Lasagna is a classic comfort dish made with layers of pasta, rich meat sauce, and creamy cheese, perfect for family gatherings or a cozy dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 (6-ounce) cans tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic until the meat is browned and the onion is soft. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the sauce simmers, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt. Mix until smooth.
- In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the mozzarella cheese and a third of the meat sauce.
- Repeat the layers: noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and meat sauce. Finish with a final layer of noodles, the remaining meat sauce, and top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let the lasagna cool for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, substitute the meat with sautéed vegetables like zucchini, mushrooms, and spinach.
- Add a layer of fresh spinach or kale between the noodles for added nutrition and flavor.
