Description

Mediterranean Ground Beef Pita with Hot Honey Feta Cream is a delicious and flavorful dish that combines seasoned ground beef with fresh vegetables and a creamy feta sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 4 whole wheat pitas
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cucumber, diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 4 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Stir in cumin, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for another 2 minutes to combine flavors.
  5. While the beef is cooking, prepare the Hot Honey Feta Cream by combining crumbled feta cheese, cream cheese, honey, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes in a medium bowl. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  6. Warm the pitas in a dry skillet or microwave for about 20 seconds.
  7. Fill each pita with the cooked ground beef, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and parsley. Drizzle with the Hot Honey Feta Cream.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute the ground beef with lentils or crumbled tempeh seasoned with the same spices.
  • Add sliced olives or roasted red peppers for extra flavor and texture in the pitas.
