Description
Melopita is a traditional Greek honey pie made with a creamy filling of ricotta cheese and Greek yogurt, sweetened with honey and flavored with vanilla, lemon zest, and cinnamon.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups ricotta cheese
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- ½ cup honey
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 pre-made pie crust (9-inch)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, Greek yogurt, honey, eggs, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and cinnamon. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the filling into the pre-made pie crust, spreading it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- If desired, dust the top with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, substitute half of the ricotta with mascarpone cheese.
- Add a handful of chopped nuts, such as walnuts or almonds, to the filling for added texture and flavor.
