Description

Deliciously rich and gooey salted caramel butter cake bars that are perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the batter.
  7. Spoon the remaining batter over the caramel layer, then drizzle the rest of the caramel sauce on top. Use a knife or toothpick to swirl the caramel into the batter gently.
  8. Sprinkle the sea salt evenly over the top.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  10. Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment paper and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
  11. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, try adding chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts into the batter.
  • You can also substitute the caramel sauce with chocolate sauce for a delicious twist.
  • For a festive touch, sprinkle some crushed pretzels on top for added crunch and flavor.
