Deliciously rich and gooey salted caramel butter cake bars that are perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the batter.
- Spoon the remaining batter over the caramel layer, then drizzle the rest of the caramel sauce on top. Use a knife or toothpick to swirl the caramel into the batter gently.
- Sprinkle the sea salt evenly over the top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment paper and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
- Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, try adding chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts into the batter.
- You can also substitute the caramel sauce with chocolate sauce for a delicious twist.
- For a festive touch, sprinkle some crushed pretzels on top for added crunch and flavor.
