Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup toffee bits (such as Heath Bar bits)
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in the toffee bits and chocolate chips, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the sauce by whisking together the powdered sugar and heavy cream in a small bowl until smooth.
- Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Drizzle the sauce over the warm cake before serving.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
