Description
Oven-baked Cabbage Burgers are a delicious and healthy twist on traditional burgers, using cabbage leaves as a wrap for a flavorful meat filling.
Ingredients
- 1 small head of green cabbage (about 2 pounds)
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Remove the core from the cabbage and carefully peel off 8 large leaves. Blanch the leaves in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until softened, then transfer to a bowl of ice water to cool. Drain and pat dry.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, paprika, oregano, shredded cheese, breadcrumbs (if using), and egg. Mix until well combined.
- Scoop about 1/4 cup of the meat mixture onto the center of each cabbage leaf. Fold the sides over the filling and roll up tightly, securing with toothpicks if necessary. Place the cabbage burgers seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
- Drizzle the olive oil over the cabbage burgers. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the cabbage is tender.
- Let the cabbage burgers cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, substitute the meat with cooked quinoa or lentils and add diced vegetables.
- Add your favorite spices or hot sauce to the meat mixture for an extra kick.
