Ingredients
Main Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 26 pre-cooked sausage patties (mini-sized)
- 1½–2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
Optional Toppings:
- Butter (as needed)
- Powdered sugar (to taste)
- Maple syrup (to taste)
Instructions
- Cook the Sausage Patties:
- Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and cook sausage patties until golden and fully cooked, following package instructions.
- Transfer cooked sausages to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.
- Prepare the Pancake Batter:
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and baking powder.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and buttermilk until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. The batter should be slightly lumpy for the best texture.
- Heat the Oil:
- Pour vegetable oil into a large saucepan or deep skillet, filling it about 2 inches deep.
- Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a kitchen thermometer to monitor the temperature.
- Coat the Sausage in Batter:
- Dip each cooked sausage patty into the pancake batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
- Let any excess batter drip off before frying.
- Fry the Pancake Sausage Bites:
- Carefully place a few battered sausages at a time into the hot oil.
- Fry for 2–3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown on all sides.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the bites from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- Serve and Garnish:
- Serve the pancake sausage bites warm.
- Top with a pat of butter, sprinkle with powdered sugar, or drizzle with maple syrup for added flavor.
Notes
- Maintain the oil temperature at 350°F for even frying.
- Avoid overmixing the batter to keep it light and fluffy.
- For a healthier option, bake the bites instead of frying
