Description

A delicious and indulgent Pretzel Bread Pudding topped with rich caramel sauce, perfect for dessert lovers.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups pretzel bread, cubed (about 68 ounces)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • For the caramel sauce:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed pretzel bread, milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until well combined. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
  3. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, ensuring the bread is evenly distributed. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the liquid.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean.
  5. While the bread pudding is baking, prepare the caramel sauce. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and butter. Stir constantly until the mixture turns a deep amber color.
  6. Carefully add the heavy cream to the saucepan (it will bubble vigorously) and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  7. Once the bread pudding is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Drizzle warm caramel sauce over each serving.

Notes

  • For a nutty flavor, add 1/2 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts to the bread pudding mixture.
  • Substitute the caramel sauce with a chocolate sauce or a fruit compote for a different flavor profile.
