Description
A delicious and indulgent Pretzel Bread Pudding topped with rich caramel sauce, perfect for dessert lovers.
Ingredients
- 3 cups pretzel bread, cubed (about 6–8 ounces)
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3 large eggs
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- For the caramel sauce:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed pretzel bread, milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until well combined. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, ensuring the bread is evenly distributed. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the liquid.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean.
- While the bread pudding is baking, prepare the caramel sauce. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and butter. Stir constantly until the mixture turns a deep amber color.
- Carefully add the heavy cream to the saucepan (it will bubble vigorously) and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
- Once the bread pudding is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Drizzle warm caramel sauce over each serving.
Notes
- For a nutty flavor, add 1/2 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts to the bread pudding mixture.
- Substitute the caramel sauce with a chocolate sauce or a fruit compote for a different flavor profile.
