Ingredients

  • 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced (such as cremini or button)
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat until melted and hot.
  2. Add the sliced onions to the skillet and sauté for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften.
  3. Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the mushrooms are browned and have released their moisture.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and thyme, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. If desired, drizzle with balsamic vinegar and stir to combine.
  6. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
