Ingredients
- 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced (such as cremini or button)
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat until melted and hot.
- Add the sliced onions to the skillet and sauté for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften.
- Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the mushrooms are browned and have released their moisture.
- Stir in the minced garlic and thyme, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. If desired, drizzle with balsamic vinegar and stir to combine.
- Remove from heat and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, try adding a splash of white wine after the mushrooms have cooked down, allowing it to reduce for a minute before serving.
- Experiment with different types of mushrooms, such as shiitake or portobello, for varied textures and flavors.
