Description

Savory Breakfast Protein Biscuits are a delicious and hearty way to start your day, packed with protein and flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup cooked and crumbled breakfast sausage (or bacon)
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.
  3. Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and cooked sausage until evenly distributed.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
  7. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Gather any scraps, re-knead, and cut out additional biscuits.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
  9. Allow the biscuits to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
  • Add chopped green onions or bell peppers to the dough for extra flavor and nutrition.
