Description
Savory Breakfast Protein Biscuits are a delicious and hearty way to start your day, packed with protein and flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup cooked and crumbled breakfast sausage (or bacon)
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.
- Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and cooked sausage until evenly distributed.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
- Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Gather any scraps, re-knead, and cut out additional biscuits.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
- Allow the biscuits to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a healthier option, substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
- Add chopped green onions or bell peppers to the dough for extra flavor and nutrition.
